Like the breathing body, life is about taking in and letting go. We don’t just breathe in, we inhale and exhale. Often times we find ourselves clinging and attaching ourselves, either to a person, a thing, or an idea. We hold on tightly as if our lives depended on it.

Letting go means that we allow things, people, and experiences to be in our world without grasping at them. Mindfulness enables us to be in the present moment and appreciate what is positive and nourishing about the experience without wanting more.

This attitude enables us to let go of negative, draining, disappointing moments and situations so they don’t continue to cause harm to ourselves and others.

Letting go requires that we have the courage to see clearly. We are aware of how a situation impacts our well-being. Then we do what is being called for with gentleness.

Reflections for the week:
– In what situations do you notice yourself clinging?
– What would you like to let go of?
– What’s one thing you can do this week to practice letting go?

May this help you take another step along your mindful path.
