While we often cannot control what life presents us with, we can always choose how we navigate the turbulence.

Our tendency is to resist what’s happening when it’s something unpleasant. You may have heard the expression, “that which we resist, persists”.

Resistance depletes our energy, causes pain and stress, and becomes a barrier to change. Acceptance means that we can see things as they are in the present moment whether we like it or not.

This doesn’t mean that we should accept the unacceptable. It’s not about being passive. It’s more about accepting that whatever is happening in this moment is reality.

Mindfulness gives us the opportunity to breathe and be with it. We can notice our feelings, thoughts, and sensations. We can stay calm and respond rather than react. Eventually see clearly and can consciously choose an action.

Acceptance is actually a very powerful place to operate from. As you practice the attitude of acceptance, simply be aware of how this impacts your well-being.

Reflections for the week:

  • How might your resistance to ‘what is’ cause you pain, suffering, or stress?
  • Where in your life do you wish to practice acceptance?
  • What is one thing you will try this week?

May this help you take another step along your mindful path!
